Contract work is a conversation before it is a decision. The Collaborate tab in a document's side panel is where that conversation happens: who is involved, what they said, and what they decided.
Three tabs in one panel
- Participants
- Who has access to this document — internal colleagues and external contacts.
- Comments
- Discussion anchored to specific wording in the contract.
- Approval
- The formal sign-off workflow, covered in its own article.
Add people to a document
Participants are per document, not per workspace. Adding someone here gives them access to this contract specifically.
- Open the document, select Collaborate, then the Participants tab.
- Select Add Collaborator and choose a colleague from your company.
- For someone outside the company, add them from the workspace Address Book, or enter their first name, last name and email to create a new contact.
Comment on a clause
- Select the text you want to discuss in the document.
- Choose Add Comment from the toolbar that appears, write your comment, and post it. It stays anchored to that wording.
- Reply in the thread to build the discussion. Everyone with access to the document can follow it.
- Select Resolve once the point is settled, or Reopen if it comes back.
Common questions
Can I @mention a colleague in a comment?
Mention-based tagging inside comments is not available yet. Reply in the thread and the participants are notified; to bring in someone new, add them under Participants first.
Can two people edit the document at the same time?
Collaboration runs through comments and approvals rather than simultaneous typing. Agree who is editing, and use comments for everything else.
What is the difference between a participant and a workspace member?
A workspace member can see every document in that workspace. A participant has been added to one specific document — which is how an external contact can review a single contract without seeing anything else.
